My Amazon.com Wish List

Sava Content Management System

Today I came across Sava. There are 2 versions for it, a Standard and Express which uses Railo. I decided to try the Express to see what it is all about. Installation for the Express was a breeze. You just unzip and run a bat file and then browse to the demo page. The admin page seems very user friendly. Has anyone else heard of Sava and what do you think of it?

Jim Priest's Gravatar Looks neat - a nice addition to the CFML CMS list.

Their site is a bit unclear about cost/licensing? Is it free? I'll have to download it and check out the code...

Tony Garcia's Gravatar Looks cool. I just downloaded it and am ready to check it out.
@Jim -- the home page of their web site says "Open source, free and flexible." I can't find licensing info on the site, but in the download, the license is GNU GPL v3

Chris's Gravatar @Jim -- I agree. The site is very clear about anything except maybe the features.

I haven't heard anyone talk about this CMS. Let me know what you guys think of it.

Sean Schroeder's Gravatar Hi guys,

Thanks to all of you for checking out Sava...our apologies for any lack of clarity as to the Sava license.

Sava is free and open source under the GNU GPL2 license.

If you have any other questions, feel free to contact us or post something in the forum.

Thanks again!

Chris's Gravatar I don't know about anyone else, but I find the installation directions pretty confusing. Has anyone got Sava installed?
# Posted By Chris | 5/5/08 12:28 PM
Sean Schroeder's Gravatar Chris,

Sorry the installation directions aren't clear for you. We're actually in the process of putting together some screenshots and fleshing things out a bit more. If you can provide some clarification about what is confusing, it'd be very helpful. I'll post here when we've finished finessing things and adding screenshots.

Chris's Gravatar @Sean,

Installation Steps:

1. Add the jar files in the lib directory to CF server's lib. -- Done

2. (optional) Add custom mapping to CF server's web.xml. The code is available in the lib/web-xml.txt -- Skipped

3. Restart the CF server. -- Done

4. Add custom tags to CF server. -- Add to custom folder or just upload it to the web server?

5. Add frameworks to CF server. -- Ditto here?

6. Create MS SQL database named 'savaDB' and run the mssql script against it. -- Done, Assuming the same as MySQL

7. create a CF datasource named 'savaDB' connecting to the previously created db. Make sure to enable Blobs in the advanced settings. If you running MySql on linux make sure to set lower-case-table-names=1 in the /etc/my.cfg -- Done

8. Paste the savaCMS directory into the inetpub directory. -- Is this the sava5 directory?

9. In the CF admin add following custom mappings
   savaWRM pointing to [inetpub]\savaCMS\www\
-- Is this the sava5 directory?

Didn't get this far

Sean Schroeder's Gravatar Hi Chris,

I went through the install instructions and fleshed things out a bit. You can find the revised install notes here:

Hope this helps. If you need anymore help, please let us know. Thanks!

Sean Schroeder's Gravatar Interesting, I just clicked it and it worked for me...you can also search for "install" on the documentation or product site and find the page.

Chris's Gravatar I finally got around to try installing Sava, but I have run into a problem. It keeps redirecting to http://localhost/default/index.cfm. That isn't where I installed it. Any ideas?
